David Wetherall gave Leeds the lead with a goal in the fifth minute. Costello equalized from the penalty spot in the sixteenth minute to leave the scores locked at 1-1 at half time. Wetherall got his second to give United the lead once more in the sixty-third minute and David White clinched the win in the last minute. The referee was Brendan Short.
